Melotties are a very uncommon species of otter-axolotl hybrids (lutra ambystomake) known to inhabit select urban ecosystems within Germany, particularly in pond-adjacent zones. They are considered closely related to the flour otters („Mehlotter“), with whom they share various traits and overlapping habitat preferences.

Despite multiple alleged sightings and a small number of photographics records, the existence of melotties remains scientifically disputed, with some zoologists referring to them as an elaborate hoax.

Melotties are frequently described as possessing an unreasonably high level of skill and coolness. They are, however, notably shy and tend to avoid direct confrontations.

Etymology

The term melotty is derived from the Old Vtuberish words melo (“amazing”) and tty (“creature).

Early usage of the term appears in archives of zoology forums from the late 1990s.

Terminology

A melotty’s den is referred to as a Teich, regardless of whether it is aquatic in nature or not. Urban Melotty dens have been reported to be anything from trash cans to full apartments and houses.

Life cycle

Melotties exhibit a highly unusual and controversial developmental pattern. A melotty is considered born at exactly 12 years of age. From there on, they keep living for about 74 human years. However, because melotties are unable to biologically age, they also die at the age of 12.

This contradictionary life cycle system has led some researchers at Melotty Research Inc. to propose a two-state life system based on the concepts outlined by Erwin Schrödinger where a melotty is alive and dead at the same time.

Meat

Melotty meat is known for its highly distinctive aromatic smell, often describes as “pleasently overwhelming” or “immensely desirable.” However, it is classified as extremely toxic to humans.

Ingestion by humans is reported to result in a near-instantenous end of life within a singular nanosecond.

Historically, sources suggest that humans once consumed Melotty meat regularly, driven primarily by its appealing scent, causing massive death waves. Although no reliable reliable demographic data exists from before 2010, estimated casualties are believed to be in the tens of thousands.

MMV

In response to rising concerns regarding Melotty-related fatalities, the organization WWTFADFMM GmbH (We Want To Fight Against Deaths From Melotty Meat) initiated vaccine development in the early 2000s.

By 2012, the MMV (Melotty Meat Vaccination) was publicly announced following limited testing on animals. Early human testing phases after 2012 were plagued by significant failure and several reported casualties, though documentation remains incomplete and heavily censored.

The vaccine officially entered the market in 2017 but was met with widespread public backlash after accusations that the organization’s founder has conducted a robbery on a local elementary school Mehl-von-Otti Grundschule, stealing several children to sacrifice them to his religion, Melottyism.

Today, MMV is largely considered discontinued, although several reports claim that Melotty Research Inc., the US-based successor organization to WWTFADFMM GmbH and Melotty Research GmbH maintains illegal laboratories in the United States to continue research on the vaccinations.

Digestive system

Melotties possess a dual-stomach digestive architecture, significantly more complex than that of most known humanoid creatures.

The primary stomach processed conventional nutritional intake, functioning similarly to that of a human stomach.

The transitional stomach is responsible for transformation by magic of low-quality or “undesirable” food into boba, which is then transferred to the primary stomach via a series of internal stomach tubes.

Social behavior

Melotties demonstrate a strong and consistent affinity towards domestic cats (felis catus), although the underlying cause of this interspecies preference remains unknown. The last formal study on this phenomenon was conducted by the German Melotty Research GmbH, which ceased operations in 2018 due to filing bankruptcy.

In natural observation settings, Melotties are typically shy and will retreat into enclosed or soft environments when startled, with a document preference for blankets, textiles, and similar materials.

When in a secure and confident state, Melotties are capable of producing complex melodies, often described as beautiful, emotionally resonant. They often exceed human vocal range in clarity and vocal aesthetic.

However, certain documented cases suggest that more intelligent Melotties may exploit this capability for predatory behavior, using its beautiful music to lure prey into controlled environments. This behavior remains controversial and may represent only a small fraction of Melotties, which are otherwise known to be peaceful creatures.
